OUR FOCUS Cowboy Six Shooter is the world wide recognized icon of the American Cowboy. The words Six Shooter were even etched on some revolver barrels at the Colt factory. In testimony to its lasting legacy, versions of the famous 1873 Colt Single Action Army design are manufactured around the World today. The legacy of the Cowboy Six Shooter is historic and should be told. Our additional objective is the protection and support of our Constitutional Second Amendment Rights which will be accomplished by introducing volunteer citizens to a safe and pleasant recreational Cowboy Six Shooter experience. The National Rifle Association (NRA) honored the Cowboy Six Shooter Historical Foundation awarding it the NRA 2008 Public Service Award.
OUR MISSION The Historical Foundation promotes public awareness, education, appreciation and preservation of our American Cowboy Six Shooter Heritage "The gun that won the West". Part of Second Amendment vulnerability is citizen's lack of positive recreational gun sport experience. We combine these two Mission objectives by taking our message direct to the public throughout the USA. At local western theme entertainment events citizens are offered the opportunity to handle a real Cowboy Six Shooter - many for the first time in their lives. We educate citizens one at a time. This exciting and fun experience helps create a positive attitude toward the Cowboy Six Shooter and other firearms when responsibly used by citizens in recreational sports activity.
MISSION SUPPORT The Historical Foundation mission is carried out by its Management Team and Members working together in the field. Many Foundation Members belong to national gun sport organizations and are eager to support this worthy cause. Recreational Six Shooter competitive activity almost always begins with a "Fast Draw". Once the Six Shooter is in hand the challenge of competition is quite different within each association. For those event promoters or clubs that have the need, target monitoring systems and other event related equipment is loaned by the Foundation free. Spectator and participant safety is always a primary concern. Cowboy Six Shooters are never pointed towards people. For more than 50 years the use of Six Shooters using low power wax loads have proven to be an exceptionally safe sporting activity.
OUR MUSEUM The Cowboy Six Shooter Museum planned to be located in the San Antonio area will offer collateral educational material in support of our Constitutional Second Amendment Right. Visiting adults and youngsters are taught the importance of their American Cowboy Six Shooter Heritage plus lessons in safe handling of firearms. Interpretive Historic Era Displays include: US Cavalry, Wild West, Television/Movies, Fast Draw, Cowboy Action Shooting, Reenactment, Sixgun Spinning and Showmanship, Lawmen and other themes. Examples of Cowboy Six Shooter memorabilia and championship awards plus six guns, leather and equipment used in actual competition are displayed. At the Indoor Wax Range adults and limited age children may fire a real Six Shooter in a safe and controlled environment. The range is patterned after the famous SASS Wax Championship Match held each year in the lobby of a major hotel in Las Vegas. The Hall of Fame honors individuals and professionals who have excelled in the recreational use of a Six Shooter. The Museum Store features items of interest to children such as Cowboy/Cowgirl clothing, cap guns, books and teaching videos.
