The Cowboy Six Shooter Historic Foundation gives citizens the opportunity to handle a real Cowboy Six shooter under safe and controlled conditions. Recall the most famous of all movie shootouts - "High Noon" - Sheriff Will Cain (Gary Cooper) calls for citizen Deputies to help run the Bad Guys out of town. Not one citizen will volunteer. Not so today! This fun game received the NRA Public Service Award and is known as NRA High Noon ShowDown. Citizens from the audience volunteer to play the roll of Deputy Sheriff and compete with each other in a fun and friendly Cowboy Six Shooter game. Safe wax bullets propelled by primer only are used (no gunpowder).
The
volunteers, referred to as ‘Deputy (first name), are assigned to an
experienced Sheriff. The Sheriff will train his/her two Deputies how to
safely hold and fire a real Cowboy Six Shooter. Many Deputy participants
will have never held much less fired a real Cowboy Six Shooter before this
exciting and fun challenge. With simple training and experienced
supervision, firing wax bullets at metal targets is safe and fun.
For safety reasons the participants will not draw from a holster. The Six
Shooter staged on a table will be simply raised and fired at a metal target
known as the "Bad Guys". While most participants will be of age 18 or
more, younger qualified participants may be individually approved by the Range Safety
Officer.

On
the firing line a Deputy will be positioned on both sides of the Sheriff.
Each Deputy will face identical Bad Guy metal targets. The Deputy's Six
Shooter will be loaded and unloaded at the firing line only by the Sheriff.
Six Shooters will always be safely pointed down range. Only the Sheriff
will cock the Six Shooter hammer. When both Bad Guy target lights come
on, each Deputy will simply raise and fire one wax bullet at his/her target.
When the target has been hit by the wax bullet the target light will go off.
The target light of the fastest Deputy will flash and an audible alarm will be
sounded. We have a Winner! Each Deputy will be given a Deputy Sheriff Certificate.
The Deputies may also wear and keep a red bandana memento.
The audience will enjoy a fast paced, easy to understand and highly entertaining show. The Deputies and experienced Six Shooters (Sheriff) will also have a lot of fun. Some volunteer Deputy shooters may become potential new members for the local clubs represented by the Sheriffs. Most importantly, citizens will have experienced the use of a Cowboy Six Shooter in a fun and safe competitive game.
